Temple of Elemental Evil - Memorial Book

So I promised you guys the ToEE Memorial book I put together and I'm a man of my word, so here it is!

Get the book HERE!

Inside the MASSIVE tome you will find the following;

Page 1 - Ma homemade cover.

Page 3 - Our adventuring company logo, the Latin at the top stands for "Death is certain, the hour is uncertain"  I thought that was appropriate ;)

Page 4 - Charter for out adventuring company.

Page 5 - Charter for the town of Hommlett.

Pages 8-13 - Iron Woods Keep, built by our heroes after vanquishing the Temple, they expanded on the tower that was already in Hommlett.

Pages 15-27 - Character sheets, character illustrations, spellbooks.

Pages 28-37 - Maps of what we explored!

Pages 38-41 - Images from the temple, the Riddle of the Temple and the Orb of Golden Death illustration.

Pages 42-42 - Just for shits and giggles.

That's it!  I had a lot of fun putting this little book together, we spent so much time running this adventure, it deserved the royal treatment!  Thanks for looking!

New Art - Heroes of the Temple of Elemental Evil

After spending seven years delving into the Temple of Elemental Evil with my friend Dan I decided to put together a little book.  The book included the most up to date character sheets, maps, a company charter for the Iron Woods Adventuring Company as well as little pictures that I drew of each character.

I took those character drawings, colored them in Photoshop and threw in the cover image from the ToEE in the background to create this AMAZING (said sarcastically) piece of art.

These are the characters that survived the Temple.  They are (from left to right);

Rahan, elven thief
Vallon, human fighter
Jess, human cleric of Mayaheine
Marhev, human fighter
Kayla, human wizard

I'll probably post the whole book I put together at some point, I just thought this would be fun to share!

Temple of Elemental Evil 3rd Edition Files

Heya folks,

Now that my run as DM of the ToEE is over, I wanted to provide you all with the files that I used to run the adventure.  Below is a link that contains everything that I needed to complete the Temple including conversions to 3e, images, and all kinds of additional stuff I found online.  I hope this is as helpful to you as it was to me!

Just a note, I cannot take credit for 99% of the stuff in this file.  Most of this is the fruit of others hard labor, I just downloaded it, made some small adjustments for my campaign and ran with it.  I was able to find Daniel Rivera, he did all of the stand alone NPC sheets and Banesfinger did the Verbobonc City Guide.  I could not find who had done the conversion of the Temple, it may have been someone named Majin over on EnWorld but I am not certain.  If anyone knows the original authors, please contact me so I can give them credit!

So on to the files, here is a breakdown of what is included in the .zip file;

1 - Hommlet - 3e conversion, NPC sheets and images of Hommlet and the surrounding areas.
2 - Moathouse - 3e conversion and images.
3 - Nulb & Temple Ground - 3e conversion, NPC sheets, Player Interlude to read to the players, Tower Ruins encounter sheet and images.
4 - ToEE Lvl 1 - 3e conversion, Earth Priests NPC sheet and images.
5 - ToEE Lvl 2 - 3e conversion, Air Priest NPC sheet, 2 Fire Priest NPC sheets, Water Preists NPC sheet, Feldrin & Brunk NPC sheets and images.
6 - ToEE Lvl 3 - 3e conversion, Falrinth & Sigmal NPC sheets, Falrinth's Spell-book's, Rebuter Riddle, Riddle of the Temple and images.
7 - ToEE Lvl 4 - 3e conversion.
8 - The Nodes - 3e conversion.
9 - Verbobonc - City of Verbobonc Guide and also images of the city.
10 - City of Greyhawk - Greyhawk City Descriptions, TSR1043 The City of Greyhawk, TSR9578 Greyhawk Players Guide and images.
11 - Characters - The Character Background Guide and Personality & Background Sheet, also a Excel Spell-book Spreadsheet and a Excel Spreadsheet called Party Info, I used this to track the party's current status, date, weather, major abilities, treasure, bank accounts and all kinds of other info, its a really handy sheet made by me!
12 - Flanaess - Beers of Flanaess, Greyhawk Calender and Greyhawk Deities.
13 - Orb of Golden Death - 3e conversion and a nice picture of the Orb by me.

Then there are a number of loose files:

Finale - The final conclusion for my party, includes the aftermath and awarding of goods and titles to the characters.

Iuz the Evil - 3e conversion of the demi-god.

Navigating the Finale - My own personal road map for the final bits of the temple, how to get to the end.

New Monsters for the ToEE - Juggernaut, Werejackle and Water Weird all converted to 3e.

Temple History -  As titled, my characters were in Verbobonc and did some research into the history of the temple, I gave them this to read.

ToEE Main and ToEE Nodes - binder cover-sheets I made, feel free to use them!

So that's everything (I think).  I hope you guys get some use out of this, feel free to post elsewhere but please at least link back to my site.  Thanks and enjoy!

**SPOILERS** Conclusion to the Temple of Elemental Evil **SPOILERS**

This last weekend my friend and I finally set aside time for the Temple of Elemental Evil!  December 2013 was the last time we got together to roll some dice in person.  We had been playing some DCC RPG via the Internet but really wanted to get back to our ongoing campaign.  I drove down to North Carolina to visit him and we crushed out the final bits of the Temple in what proved to be a satisfying conclusion to a VERY long campaign (8+ years!)

MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD - PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!  Story continues after the break!

**SPOILERS** Temple of Elemental Evil **SPOILERS**

I had a chance to get together with my old gaming buddy this weekend and smash out some more of the Temple of Elemental Evil.  We began playing six to seven years ago and get together when we can.  We were (and still are) living in different states and don't get to play very often.  When we started out we were using VOIP and a whiteboard program (before google+ became the way to play) and then fell into a once or twice a year in person session.  It felt good to get back to DM'ing, we last played about a year and a half ago so I was feeling a bit rusty at first.

This is the first time I have run the Temple as DM having previously played through it once before when I was a wee lad.  It's my favorite adventure of all time and it was really fun to spend all weekend rolling dice, eating pizza, drinking beers and embracing my inner geek.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

The party:
Vallon - Human Fighter & Surly Bastard
Marhev - Human Fighter (my toon but being run by my friends girlfriend)
Jess - Human Cleric with a dark soul
Kaila - Elf Wizard (holds the record for most deaths)
Rahan - Elf Rogue (nicknamed The Finisher for his ability to drop baddies with his bow, after spending the entire fight missing them)

Things started with the party heading back to the Temple from Verbobonc, Jess (the lawful good cleric) wanted to sack Nulb and put the occupants to the sword but was dissuaded by her fellow companions. They made their way to the Water Temple as they had previously cleared out the entire third floor except for pool room. They were unable to figure out the acid pool and almost lost Rahan after he jumped in the acid but was able to climb out of the pool before melting into a puddle of goo.  After some general shenanigans they decided to move on and attempt the fourth floor of DOOM.  Over the next few hours they explored all of the rooms south of the main temple and found them all to be empty of creatures, leaving them mystified.  Near the main altar of worship a portal opened that cut off their escape and all of the monsters from the level began pouring out.  Darting down a side hallway they stumbled into the portal that lead to the Air Node.  I had hoped to drive them into the nodes, I'm not sure if my players would have volunteered to go through without a push so it worked out well!

Upon entering the Air Node they found themselves pummeled by flying debris and they sought cover.  Heading east they began working their way counterclockwise around the edge of the node.  They spotted a white dragon flying high above them giving them a bit of a scare.  Pressing on they entered a cave system and found a dead Cloud Giant, his body blasted by ice.  Pushing further into the cave system they encountered a Frost Worm and a vicious battle ensued!  Using its Trill ability the Frost Worm froze several of the party in place and proceeded to tear into the rest.  Kaila was killed (again) by the beasts breath weapon and was finally felled by Rahan The Finisher (after he missed multiple times during the fight).  My friend was pretty upset that Kaila died (again), shes already fallen behind in levels due to her previous deaths but he decided to try and save her by casting Gentle Repose until we could get her resurrected.

Feeling defeated the party moved on, much more cautiously than before as we were now lacking our wizard. Continuing around the outer edge of the node they came upon a large cave filled with a giant boulder field.  Shortly after they began to maneuver through the field a small white dragon flew from deep in the cave and glided out the entrance through which they had come.  Rahan donned his invisibility ring and scouted ahead while the rest of the party took refuge in the shadows of the boulders.  He discovered the dragons treasure horde and spent a few rounds picking through it hoping the dragon would not return.  He found several small items of value including a silver box with a aquamarine gem in it.  Returning to the party they realized the gem was the perfect size to fit into the golden skull they were in possession of (the Orb of Golden Death).  Seizing the gem from the box they were all suddenly ripped from the Air Node and deposited in a splash into the center of the Water Node!  Shocked and surprised this is where the adventure ended as we were all a bit tired.

I am looking forward to playing again but it will probably be some time.  My players were sure that the fourth level was the final one and were surprised at the inclusion of the nodes.  They are slowly piecing together what they need to do to bring the temple low.  Next time should bring the conclusion to our many year adventure.  I'm looking forward to it!

Orb of Golden Death

For the last few years I have been running a 3e conversion the Temple of Elemental Evil.  It's the first and only campaign I have run in 3e and will probably never play 3e again once this adventure is complete. My feelings on 3e aside, I was looking around for a decent image of the Orb of Golden Death that I could print out for my players and was unable to find anything I really liked.  So I made my own version in Procreate on my iPad.  Above is a time compressed video of the creation of the drawing.

Our adventure will be wrapping up soon and once it does I will be making available all of the materials I used to run the Temple including the 3e conversion and the different play aids I used.  Much of this stuff was created by other people, I just pulled it all together and made some edits for my campaign.  If you have never had a chance to play the original Temple of Elemental Evil I highly recommend it, I have played once as a player and now a second time as a DM.  Its a classic adventure that is a blast!
