My wife's first Car Wars game!  Killer Karts roam the arena!

Heya folks!

There will be no The One Ring review today, I'm running behind this week.  I promise it will be out in the next few days!

My wife and I are in the process of fixing up our basement and clearing out lots of stuff we've accumulated over the years.  I've thinned out some of the games that I own and will probably never play again, so in the next couple of weeks I'll be posting some stuff for sale so keep an eye on this space.

I celebrated my 40th birthday this week with my wife and daughter, we spent two days in a cabin at Westmoreland State Park in Virginia.  It was beautiful, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and we were stuck indoors for much of the time.  I coerced my wife into playing some Car Wars, we did a Killer Kart vs. Killer Kart battle.  We both enjoyed it greatly, I forgot what a fun game that is.  Next time we will be designing our own cars for a Division 10 fight!  I still love that old Deluxe Edition set that I have.  I really need to do a Car Wars review, especially with the new version coming out next year!

Car Wars Arenas Kickstarter is Live!

That's a bad-ass bike!

I'm back with some Car Wars news, the Kickstarter project for Car Wars Arenas went live earlier today! The goal is $50,000 in the next four weeks with nearly $25,000 already pledged today. The box will include five 22x34" arenas with a booklet that includes special rules for each. Stretch goals start at $75K and go up to $150K. They include additional maps, double sided maps, a Car Wars patch, custom dice and at the top tier additional dropped weapon and debris counters.

This is NOT for the new 6e version of Car Wars, this is a suppliment for the recently released Car Wars Classic, there are pledge levels that incude this set and the original Car Wars Classic box if you missed out on the first two runs.

CAR WARS CLASSIC HAS ARRIVED!!

 

Two days after ordering it online, Car Wars Classic arrived on my doorstep!  The game apparently sold out at Warehouse 23 in around four hours!  This is just a quick unboxing so everyone can see whats in this edition.  Lets get started!

Smells like victory!

Inside the box is the rulebook which is 64 pages with a saddle-stitch binding.  There are 103 color counters which are double sided, though the vehicles have the same image on both sides which is odd.  There are only two wreck counters, they also have the same wreck on each side.  I would have liked to have seen the cars with their respective wrecks on the back.  I wonder if this was a proofing issue.  Anyway the counters include all of the classic images like the golden van, the limo, the VW Bug, and the red pickup truck.  There are also pedestrians, motorcycles, oil, smoke, gas, spikes, mines, handeling and speed counters, numbered car counters and small and large debris counters.  They are all printed on a much thicker stock and feel very nice.  Also incuded is a turning key as well as well as four six sided dice.  There are two record sheets, one for cars with a weapons list on the back and one for cycles with a vehicle build sheet on the back.

The last piece that included is the map.  It's a double sided map which includes a raceway and an unnamed arena map.

This is a very nice version of Car Wars, small and packed with everything you need.  The only issue seems to be the same vehicle images printed on both sides of the counters, hopefully this will be corrected, I'd love to have the wrecks on the flip side of the counters.

Find a copy where you can and remember, drive offensively!

Today we have two young, hungry duelists looking to prove themselves and looking for a job.  We will be providing them with two of our stock Division 10 cars, the Chainsaw and the Thunder God.  The winner of this combat will be hired on a a Junior Duelist with all of the benefits of that position!  What an amazing opportunity for these young men!

This match will take place in the J. Carter Autoduel Arena, this is our home turf where we build and design all of our vehicles and will be played to "kill", first vehicle knocked out is the looser.  Now we hope that both of our contestants survive to fight another day, but this is a dangerous business and you never know what can happen.  Good luck to you both and may the best man win!"  - Bad Beardo

Combat Autowerks has been updated

Title of the post says it all, check out the tab at the top of the page, I have updated the Carter & Sons Combat Autowerks page with a few new designs.  It has been a bit slow going as I have been creating the counters as I go along.

More vehicles to come as well as a VASSAL play by play of some arena combat!

Carter & Sons Combat Autowerks is open for business!

Several years ago I created a corporation for a Car Wars Corporate Campaign.  The campaign never really got off the ground but I did spend some time making a few vehicles with counters and I put together a decent set of maps for the Car Wars VASSAL module.  

With the new version of Car Wars in discussion and moving forward I have decided to resurrect my old CW persona, Bad Beardo.  I have added a new tab at the top of the page which will take you dear reader to the Carter & Sons Combat Autowerks home page.  On it are a small sampling of some cars I created and I will be adding more as I finish up a number of designs I have in the works.  At some point I will also be posting Bar Beardo's Autodueling Guide, but I need to update it a bit first.

Its Alive! Car Wars that is.

The Car Wars forums are buzzing with talk of the new 6th edition. If you backed the Steve Jackson Games Ogre Kickstarter at a minimum of $23.00 then you have access to the new 6th edition forums. Car Wars T-Shirt Arrived!

Who's that giddy nerd pictured above?  

That's me, I received my "I made Steve Jackson work on Car Wars" t-shirt today!  It was part of the Ogre Kickstarter rewards and guarantees that SJ will be coming out with a new version of Car Wars, my favorite board game of all time.

I could not be more pleased and am going to have to bust out my Car Wars gear and teach the wife how to play.  Drive Offensively!
