Heya folks!

PRICES HAVE BEEN UPDATED AND SOME NEW RPG ITEMS ADDED!

My wife and I are currently in the process of turning our basement into a rental property so all my gaming stuff needed to find a new place to reside.  Faced with carrying it all up two flights of stairs I decided to thin out the collection a bit and save myself some physical labor.  Below is a list of items I am offering for sale.  If you're interested in any of these items please post in the comments section, first come first serve.

Just a couple of points:

1. All prices are final, I am not interested in haggling, just looking to move this stuff.  All prices will be very competitive.

2. Shipping prices are inside the USA only.  If you are outside of the United States I will work with you on the shipping costs.

3. Payment is via Paypal ONLY, this is important!  Once you pick your item you can make payment to me at jasonc1976 (at) gmail (dot) com.  Shipping costs may err on the high side, once I ship the item if I am able to do so for less that what is listed I will send you back the balance via Paypal.  I'm not looking to gouge anyone but also done want to loose my butt on shipping costs.

So I think that's it!  Have fun and enjoys browsing my items.  Take care everyone!

Command & Colors: Ancients

The setup.
Slightly different angle of the initial setup
My wife and I have been playing through the original Command & Colors: Ancients box.  This week we played the Battle of Lake Trasimenus.  We are alternating who picks which side, I pick one game and she picks the next.  This game it was my choice and I ended up with the mighty Carthaginians.  I thought it wold be a breeze for me, she started pinned back against the lake and with only two command cards.  Woah was I wrong, her dice were hot, hot, HOT!

My initial attack focused on her left flank, I sent wave after wave of cavalry in but her units beat back everything and wiped out my mounted troops. After the first couple of turns she was way ahead in banners due to a piss poor display from my cavalry.

Where o where have my cavalry gone?!
Her troops surged forward on my left flank and crashed into my waiting infantry.  At this point she was winning four banners to my two banners.  Then came the best card in the deck, Clash of Shields.  After she moved her troops into contact I played this wonderful card which gave all my troops in contact the ability to battle with +2 dice.  This essentially won the game for me, I collected four banners in one turn to seal the victory!  She was heartbroken and I was elated!

The final view of the battlefield.
We had a ton of fun as always and plan to play the battle of Cannae next, I'm sure I will be playing the doomed Romans!

That's a bad-ass bike!

Heya folks,

I'm back with some Car Wars news, the Kickstarter project for Car Wars Arenas went live earlier today! The goal is $50,000 in the next four weeks with nearly $25,000 already pledged today. The box will include five 22x34" arenas with a booklet that includes special rules for each. Stretch goals start at $75K and go up to $150K. They include additional maps, double sided maps, a Car Wars patch, custom dice and at the top tier additional dropped weapon and debris counters.

This is NOT for the new 6e version of Car Wars, this is a suppliment for the recently released Car Wars Classic, there are pledge levels that incude this set and the original Car Wars Classic box if you missed out on the first two runs.

Make sure you head over and shell out your hard earned cash to support Car Wars and Steve Jackson Games.  Linky HERE!

CAR WARS CLASSIC HAS ARRIVED!!

Two days after ordering it online, Car Wars Classic arrived on my doorstep!  The game apparently sold out at Warehouse 23 in around four hours!  This is just a quick unboxing so everyone can see whats in this edition.  Lets get started!

Smells like victory!
Inside the box is the rulebook which is 64 pages with a saddle-stitch binding.  There are 103 color counters which are double sided, though the vehicles have the same image on both sides which is odd.  There are only two wreck counters, they also have the same wreck on each side.  I would have liked to have seen the cars with their respective wrecks on the back.  I wonder if this was a proofing issue.  Anyway the counters include all of the classic images like the golden van, the limo, the VW Bug, and the red pickup truck.  There are also pedestrians, motorcycles, oil, smoke, gas, spikes, mines, handeling and speed counters, numbered car counters and small and large debris counters.  They are all printed on a much thicker stock and feel very nice.  Also incuded is a turning key as well as well as four six sided dice.  There are two record sheets, one for cars with a weapons list on the back and one for cycles with a vehicle build sheet on the back.

The counters are nice and thick!

Rule book and record sheets.

The last piece that included is the map.  It's a double sided map which includes a raceway and an unnamed arena map.

Lily checking on the Arena Map.

Lily making sure the Raceway Map is printed correctly.

Back of the box.

This is a very nice version of Car Wars, small and packed with everything you need.  The only issue seems to be the same vehicle images printed on both sides of the counters, hopefully this will be corrected, I'd love to have the wrecks on the flip side of the counters.

Find a copy where you can and remember, drive offensively!

Surviving K2! Brrrrrr.

My wife and I found some time last night to give K2 a try.  Adam Kaluza is a board game designer and avid mountain climber.  He has released several climbing games with K2 being the first, followed up by and expansion called Broad Peak (which I do not own....yet) and finally his newly released Mount Everest.

Being a person that loves to camp and hike and climb these games are right up my alley.  I'll keep my comments focused on K2 as I have not had a chance to play Mount Everest yet.

Each player is assigned two climbers each with their own tent.  The goal is to climb as high as possible to gather as many victory points as you can.  Points from both of your climbers are added together at the end of the game to find your final score.  The game is simple but offers many choices and changing conditions.  As a player you hold six cards in your hand but can only play three per turn, these are movement cards, rope cards (which can be used to move faster down the mountain), and acclimatization cards.  The three cards you play can be split between your two climbers.  Each space on the board has a movement cost and acclimatization cost which can be positive or negative.  You gain victory points by reaching higher spaces but if your climber dies (by going below one acclimatization points) you get only one victory point for him/her.

My wife plots her red climbers strategy.  Points track is on the right edge of the board.

Fun stuff included in the game are the tents, which can be pitched once for each climber.  This changes the acclimatization in one space for that climber to +1 instead of negative points.  Pitching tents are essential to making the summit, when and where you put your can can help win you the game.  Tents are setup by paying extra movement points, once placed they are there for the game and can only be used by the matching climber.

Pushing toward the summit.  You can see the weather track to the left of the board.

Weather is another big factor in the game, there are 18 game turns, each with different weather.  You can see the weather for the next few days and can plan your assault on the summit accordingly.  Weather can cause negative acclimatization or movement in different altitude bands.  This is why tents are so important, if you are losing acclimatization points due to the altitude and also due to the weather your climbers would quickly expire.  As you near the peak there are also rules allowing only so many players in each space, you can pass through but cannot stop and exceed the maximum number allowed.  This allows you to block other players and force them to use more movement cards exposing them to risk factor tokens.

The game board includes two sides, one harder than the other, also included are two sets of weather cards, one good weather with the other being winter weather for increased difficulty.  My wife and I played on the sunny side board with the good weather cards.  Next time we will try the harder versions of each.

My wife's first climber made the summit and then died from overexposure.  My climber is two spaces below the summit in his tent waiting out the storm.

Its a great game that plays smoothly and takes a bit of strategy to plan out your turn.  You never have enough movement and acclimatization cards to execute all of your plans, you need to adapt on the fly to be successful and to keep your climbers alive.  If you have any interest in climbing themed games give K2 a try, you will not be dissapointed!

My climber in his tent is blocking my wife, she needs to play extra movement points to advance past him.

She leaped over me and then I returned the favor and reached the summit!

Here's how the game ended, ten points for each that summit-ed and six for my other climber.  My wife's second climber died giving her only one point which gave me the win!

Decision at Elst finally arrived!

I was very pleased to find the newest ASL Starter Kit Expansion sitting on my doorstep yesterday afternoon. I had a chance to look it over and punch out my counters so I figured I would take a few snapshots and share it with my loyal followers! Decision at Elst is the first and only Historical Module for the Advanced Squad Leader: Starter Kit series. I used to own just about everything that Multiman Publishing made for ASL but I sold it off as I never played much and it helped to finance my wedding (cha-ching!). I was glad to see the starter kit series come out, its a nice easy way to get into ASL, the game is stripped down but you still get the feel of full ASL. This new module covers several battles around the town of Elst, an area in which the British XXX Corps would pass through on their way to try and rescue the Red Devils during Operation Market-Garden.

DaE includes a new updated manual, a campaign book with a number of linked scenarios. A new historical map of the area, new counters and new handouts for the players round out the box. I keep all of my ASL:SK manuals, maps and scenario cards together in one binder, everything slips into 8.5" x 11" clear page protectors as seen below. I've been able to squeeze everything nicely into one binder making it a lot easier to carry around.

Rule book on the right, campaign book on the left.

Vehicle notes on the left and IFT handout on the right.

Two ASL:SK scenarios.

Geomorphic map on the left and historical map on the right.

Operations magazine.

For storage I used Racco trays, even with all the new counters from Decision at Elst I was able to squeeze everything into a single box.  Its tight, if any new modules come out I may need to step up to a second tray!

Closed up and ready for travel.
All the contents expanded, that's a lot of counters!

Russian Leaders, Support Weapons and Allied Minors.

Lots O' Germans.  SS, 1st & 2nd Line and Conscript Troops.

I'm looking forward to getting back into ASL, its been to long since I have played. Full blown ASL took up to much of my time, the rule book is a massive tome that is extremely dry reading. These new starter kits are a little more concise, they trim a bit of the fat and still leave something that is satisfying to play. If you have ever been interested in ASL, give the starter kits a try. They can be purchased at MMP's website, found here: Multiman Publishing
